An earlier start of 7pm to accommodate our Annual General Meeting followed by a humorous talk on ‘meddling with nature’ from the East Yorkshire based scientist and HPS member.
Much is now made of the need to garden naturally and to garden for wildlife. This talk briefly explores fashions in gardening and then looks at the concept of natural gardening and questions whether this current fashion is actually possible, sustainable or even desirable. The conclusion reached might well be that all gardeners – even the most organic, definitely adopt unnatural practices!
Peter was formerly principal lecturer at York St. John University, he is an ecologist, plant physiologist, soil scientist, statistician and gardener. Plant propagation is one of Peter’s passions, in particular he grafts rhododendrons, azaleas, magnolias, cut-leaf maples and fruit.
